Data is available in infinite quantities these days: internal customer data, external data from social media, market, production or logistics data, data from the Internet of Things or from publicly available sources. However, simply collecting data is not enough to be able to provide directional answers to pressing questions faced by many companies. Experts are needed who can process, analyze, evaluate and, above all, present and interpret the data - in short, data scientists. They must combine the skills and competencies of computer science, statistics and journalism.

The certificate study program Data Science and Big Data is offered by the Center for Higher Education (Zentrum für Hochschulbildung, ZHB) and is designed for anyone with a background in science or engineering/statistics or who is familiar with issues related to data analysis based on several years of professional experience.

Possible professional groups are:

  • employees in scientific institutions (university or non-university)
  • data analysts
  • consultants / business consultants
  • business analysts
  • software developers

The study program enables access to a demonstrable increase in competence through the acquisition of a university certificate, thus increasing chances on the job market. This includes the acquisition of modern knowledge in theory and practice of Data Science and Big Data projects, working on self defined problems and data in the certificate exam. Moreover, the study program offers opportunities for increasing practical implementation experience through exercises and homework with real data sets, advancing the expansion of the personal network through other participants, lecturers and instructors.
