WestAI

Service Center for Artificial Intelligence

As one of four german AI service centers, WestAI combines the computing capacities of FZ Jülich and RWTH Aachen University with the AI competencies of the University of Paderborn and the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The WestAI service center provides actors from industry and science with access to KIModels and KI computing infrastructures. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should thus be able to access current AI technologies and services. This also includes consulting services for the successful use of AI, corresponding training courses and the promotion of young AI talents. The scientific focus is on work on large-scale and transferable AI models, especially in image as well as audio processing and their implementation on different hardware as well as their compression. The results of this research will be directly incorporated into the service offerings.  A consortium of scientific institutions from North Rhine-Westphalia has formed to set up and operate the service center: noteworthy are the computing capacities of Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and RWTH Aachen University, which are large in Germany, and the connection to the AI competence center Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at TU Dortmund University.

Innovations and perspectives The strong networking of the partners via AI networks and the connection possibilities to established communication networks are a good basis for a successful establishment of the service center, a broad use of the service offer as well as a transfer of the developed technologies into economy and science.
