The Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security addresses the trustworthiness of intelligent systems in safety-critical applications. A unique, human-centered research approach covers the entire interdisciplinary research of trustworthy data analytics, explainable machine learning, and privacy-aware algorithms.

We envision a unique interdisciplinary research approach that covers the entire spectrum of research challenges in all facets of trustworthy and privacy-aware technologies. Meaningful progress in these areas requires a close collaboration between a variety of disciplines. Hence, our research center builds upon the strengths of the University Alliance Ruhr in fields of Psychology & Social Sciences, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Data Science & Statistical Learning, and Cybersecurity & Privacy.

Our new research center complements these strengths with 12 additional professors and research groups within a unique interdisciplinary workspace that enables research beyond the individual disciplines. Our interdisciplinary research incubator allows for multiplication of graduate training on a bigger scale via a graduate school covering more than 30 professors working in the field. Extending the international study programs of the three universities, we will establish new interdisciplinary study areas that enable the early education of students in trustworthy data science and security. We develop trustworthy technologies in collaboration with local society and industrial sectors, including industry- and society-partners in teaching and research.
